Sustainable Design

The structural engineering industry is currently in the beginning stages of incorporating and expanding green design in projects. Savvy Structures Inc is at the forefront of this movement. Environmental stewardship through long-term, all-encompassing solutions is our social responsibility and is a high priority for Savvy Structures.

We view sustainable design as a multi-faceted endeavor that considers local materials, traditional building methods, climate and culture in the structure design. We believe the structure should not only minimize its negative impact on the environment, but should be sustainable by the owner and surrounding community over time.

Many structural material options are available and may be explored to determine the best option for a particular project. Some possibilities include rammed earth, earthbag, straw bale, cob, bamboo, natural timber, and reclaimed timber. A few natural building examples are shown here. These buildings were witnessed, but not designed by Savvy Structures Inc.
